What is a Baby Naming Ceremony?
A Baby Naming ceremony, or Brit Bat, is a Jewish tradition in which a daughter is officially given her name and introduced to her community shortly after her birth. The Baby Naming ceremony is analogous to a newborn son’s Brit Milah or Bris, and similarly includes prayers, blessings, rituals, the bestowing of Hebrew and English names, and, of course, food. You can expect a little singing, some prayers in Hebrew, some blessings in English, and plenty of explanation from our Rabbi. You’ll also be among the first to learn the meaning behind her name and why we thought it would be such a good fit for her.
Attire
Please dress comfortably. The entire ceremony site is in the shade, so it might be chilly even on a warm day. Comfortable shoes are recommended for navigating the park’s dirt paths.
Food
We’ll have refreshments immediately following the ceremony. While alcohol is not allowed in Codornices Park, we plan to celebrate appropriately and discreetly, and we ask that you do the same.
Schedule
Our brief ceremony will start close to 10:00 AM and last approximately 30 minutes. We will plan to stay for refreshments and COVID safe mingling for as long as Margalit will allow. A short walk from your parking space may be required, so please plan to arrive early.
Live Stream
Our ceremony will be live streamed on YouTube at this link beginning at approximately 10:00 AM. If there are any difficulties with the first link, please use this link as a back up. In the event of any technical difficulties with the live stream, the ceremony will be recorded and shared with everyone.
COVID Precautions
We request that everyone who is eligible receive a full course of the COVID-19, flu, and Tdap vaccines before the ceremony. While we won’t be requiring proof of vaccination at the ceremony, we will require these vaccines if you’d like to visit with us at our home in the coming weeks.
While our venue is outdoors and spacious, we request that you wear a mask when social distancing isn’t possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.
